A native of Repton, AL born March 5, 1934 was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, September 15, 2017. For the last 10 months of his life, Dad was a resident of Northshore Senior Living, Knoxville, TN.
After he graduated high school in Repton Al, he enlisted in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. A resident of Chickasaw, AL for over 60 years. Dad was an active member of West Chickasaw Baptist Church. He retired from International Paper Company, August 1996, after 40 years of service.
To meet him at Heaven's gate were his wife of 47 years, Celia Crowley Baggett, granddaughter Victoria Faith Baggett, his parents Wilbert and Ruby Baggett, two brothers, Roger and Frank Baggett along with other family members and friends.
Dad had a true passion for helping people. He would be the first in line to serve anyone that needed help. A man of few words, but full of wisdom. Truly a man who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed and never expected anything in return. Dad had a love of fishing, hunting, gardening (farming) and anything outdoors. A big Alabama football fan who proudly wore his hounds tooth hat or cap, even in Tennessee. Dad had a strong work ethic that he taught his children and those around him. Dad's heart was the size of Texas, with a spirit so gentle and tender.
He leaves to cherish his memory and to honor his legacy, his three children son Dale and Jennifer, Knoxville, TN, daughter Pam Baggett and Carol Johnson, Birmingham, AL, son Bryan and RuthAnn, Saraland, AL. Six grandchildren Jonathan Baggett, Morgan Baggett (Joe Schober), Allie Baggett Jones (Eric), Caroline Baggett (Sam English) all of Knoxville, TN, Bryanne Baggett, Caryngten Baggett and Halstyn Baggett of Saraland, AL and 6 great grandchildren, Alex, Sydney, Caris, Rease, Bennett and Ashtyn. A devoted brother Ralph (Darlene) Baggett, two sisters, Ann (Dennis) Blackmon and Kathy (Ricky) Rowell. Sister in laws Miriam Baggett and Martha Baggett. A special sister in law, Ruth Gordon. A companion and special friend, Sadie Quimby. Along with a host of other family and friends.
We would like to offer our sincere appreciation to Elaine Seats, Judy Nichols, Hope Boykin and Morgan Nichols who cared for dad while he was at home. The staff at Northshore Senior Living for their passion, love and care for dad for the last 10 months that he lived in Knoxville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at West Chickasaw Baptist Church, 452 Thompson Blvd Chickasaw, AL on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. His family will receive family and friends from 5pm to 7 pm with his service following. Military honors and final resting celebration will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers during this time.
